About · Why Fundtec

Why Fundtec: an operating partner built for fund operations

Managers choose us when they want operations that are owned, documented and reviewed, run by people who understand the asset class, and able to grow without a renegotiation every time a mandate is added.

In one minute

What

Why Fundtec comes down to six things: asset-class domain expertise, documented process discipline, AI-enabled technology through the Tychi platform, a model built to scale with AUM, DDQ-ready governance, and data security by design. Fundtec provides fund administration, middle-office operations and managed investment operations to managers and administrators who want an operating partner rather than a generic outsourcer.

Who it’s for

Anyone assessing Fundtec as a partner: investors doing due diligence, managers comparing providers, and prospective colleagues.

What happens first

A 30-minute scoping call, then a written plan: scope, the transition timeline and indicative pricing. No generic proposal.

What makes Fundtec different from other fund service providers

Most operational failures in funds are not caused by a lack of effort. They come from undocumented processes, key-person dependency, rushed reviews at month-end and teams that do not understand the instruments they are booking. We designed Fundtec around removing those causes.

Every engagement starts with process mapping and an operational handbook. Every material output goes through four-eyes review. Every role has a trained backup. And every pod is staffed by people who work in one asset-class area long enough to become subject-matter experts.

The result is an operations function that COOs can explain to their board, their auditors and their investors: who does each task, who checks it, where the data sits and what happens when something goes wrong. That clarity matters as much to an emerging manager as it does to an established multi-strategy platform.

Six reasons managers choose Fundtec

  1. 01

    Domain expertise

Analysts specialize by asset class and function: fixed income and derivatives trade operations, private credit loan servicing, investor accounting for multi-class and series accounting structures. You are not training generalists on your book.

  2. 02

    Process discipline

Written SOPs, maker-checker controls, break-aging logs and an escalation matrix. ISO 9001 certification means our quality processes are externally audited, not just described.

  3. 03

    AI-enabled technology

Our Tychi platform ingests data by API, SFTP, spreadsheet or PDF, runs a double-entry general ledger and flags exceptions for human review. No per-seat licence cost is passed to clients.

  4. 04

    Built to scale

New mandates, prime brokers and counterparties are absorbed into the existing pod without renegotiating the whole engagement. Pricing tracks AUM growth rather than headcount.

  5. 05

    DDQ-ready

Documented controls, governance cadence, BCP and ISO certificates give your investor relations team straightforward answers for operational due diligence questionnaires.

  6. 06

    Data security by design

In managed investment operations, the work runs on our proprietary platform under ISO 27001-certified controls, with role-based access, maker-checker and a full audit trail. Where an engagement runs inside a client’s own systems, access is through client-issued accounts with zero local storage.

Fundtec compared with traditional outsourcing

The difference is structural, not cosmetic. It shows up in who owns the process and what happens when your business changes.

  • Instead of Generic resources rotated across clients, instead: Dedicated pod with asset-class domain expertise
  • Instead of Fixed cost regardless of AUM growth, instead: Pricing aligned to AUM growth
  • Instead of Data copied to the vendor’s environment, instead: All data stays in client systems, access controlled by the client
  • Instead of Staff turnover and knowledge loss, instead: A dedicated PM who becomes your long-term SME
  • Instead of Client writes the procedures; vendor follows them, instead: Fundtec owns process design, documentation and delivery
  • Instead of New counterparties trigger a change request, instead: New mandates and counterparties absorbed without renegotiation
  • Instead of Single points of failure, instead: Trained backup for every role and a documented BCP

How to evaluate an operating partner

Ask for the operating model

Request the pod structure, reviewer roles and escalation path for your mandates.

Review the controls

Look for maker-checker, segregation of duties, audit trail and break aging, as set out on our controls and governance page.

Test the transition plan

Check that there is a parallel run and joint sign-off before cut-over. Ours always includes both.

Confirm data handling

Establish where data sits, who grants access and what the DPA covers.

Frequently asked questions

How is Fundtec different from a traditional outsourcing provider?

Fundtec supplies the platform and the people together: a dedicated pod with asset-class expertise, running on our proprietary technology, rather than generic staff rotated through a vendor’s tools. Fundtec owns the process design, documentation and delivery; the client reviews and approves the outputs.

Can Fundtec work alongside our existing fund administrator?

Yes. Many clients keep their administrator and use Fundtec for middle-office work, reconciliation or shadow accounting that independently checks the administrator’s NAV. Fundtec also works for administrators themselves, adding capacity through dedicated pods. The engagement is scoped so responsibilities between Fundtec, the administrator and the manager are written down before work starts.

Do we have to use the Tychi platform to work with Fundtec?

No. Funds administered by Fundtec and managed investment operations engagements run on our proprietary platform, Tychi, which provides the ledger, investor records and controls; the platform is part of the service and no per-seat licence is passed on. Investment operations teams can also work inside a client’s own OMS, accounting or reconciliation systems where the client prefers to keep them.

What does DDQ-ready mean in practice?

It means the evidence investors ask for in operational due diligence already exists. Fundtec maintains written procedures, a controls framework, a governance cadence, a business continuity plan, a data processing agreement and ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certificates. Your investor relations team can answer operational DDQ sections accurately without assembling material from scratch.

How does Fundtec handle growth in our assets or mandates?

Growth is built into the engagement. New mandates, prime brokers and counterparties are onboarded into the existing pod under agreed triggers, without renegotiating the full contract. The variable element of pricing is linked to AUM tiers, so cost moves with the business rather than jumping in headcount-sized steps.

Which asset classes does Fundtec have expertise in?

Fundtec supports equity, fixed income, derivatives including futures, options and swaps, FX, private credit, real estate and digital assets. Structures include open-ended and closed-ended funds, LP/GP, segregated portfolio companies, multi-share-class vehicles, master-feeder structures, fund of funds and standalone funds. Pods are staffed to match the instruments on your book.

Is Fundtec suitable for emerging managers as well as established ones?

Yes. Emerging managers often start with launch support through Unefund and administration on Tychi, which avoids building an operations team before the fund has scale. Established managers more often use managed investment operations or middle-office support alongside an existing administrator. The operating model, controls and governance cadence are the same in both cases.
