Jersey fund administration for Jersey Private Funds and Expert Funds
Jersey is a leading European-timezone domicile for private equity, real estate and private credit. Its Jersey Private Fund regime offers fast authorization for professional investors. Fundtec supports the operations behind it.
In one minute
Jersey fund administration is the accounting, investor services and reporting for funds regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC), most commonly the Jersey Private Fund (JPF) and the Jersey Expert Fund. Fundtec provides capital activity processing, NAV and capital account reporting, and FATCA/CRS support, and coordinates launches through Unefund, working alongside the JFSC-registered designated service provider every JPF must appoint.
Managers launching or administering a fund in this domicile who need its filings, functionaries and calendar handled correctly from day one.
A 30-minute scoping call, then a written plan: scope, the transition timeline and indicative pricing. No generic proposal.

What the Jersey Private Fund is
The Jersey Private Fund (JPF) is Jersey’s light-touch regime for funds offered to professional investors on a private basis. It has become the jurisdiction’s most popular fund product, particularly for private equity, real estate, private credit and co-investment vehicles. The JPF is authorized by the JFSC under a streamlined process: when a Jersey-regulated designated service provider submits a complete application meeting the eligibility criteria, the JFSC targets authorization within 24 hours.
Historically a JPF could make offers to, and have, no more than 50 investors. That changed with JFSC enhancements effective in August 2025. New JPFs may now have an unlimited number of investors, provided offers are made to a restricted group and every investor is a professional investor as defined in the JPF Guide. The professional investor definition was also broadened to cover categories such as UK FCA professional clients and US accredited investors under Rule 501 of Regulation D. Existing JPFs should check with their DSP how the new rules apply to them.
Jersey Private Fund regime detail
- 01
Professional investors only
Every investor must meet the professional investor definition in the JPF Guide, which includes institutional investors, high-net-worth investors meeting the prescribed tests, and certain regulated or recognized categories.
- 02
Restricted offering
Offers must be made to a restricted group and not to the public. A technical listing without active trading is permitted.
- 03
Designated service provider
A JFSC-registered DSP submits the application, conducts ongoing AML/CFT and eligibility checks, and confirms compliance to the JFSC annually.
- 04
No prescribed offering document content
The JPF Guide does not dictate prospectus contents, but disclosure must be adequate and investors must acknowledge the risks.
- 05
No mandatory audit by default
Audit requirements depend on the fund’s constitution and investor demands; most institutional JPFs are audited.
- 06
Flexible vehicles
Companies, cell companies, limited partnerships and unit trusts can all be used, open- or closed-ended.
Jersey Expert Funds
The Jersey Expert Fund is regulated under the Collective Investment Funds (Jersey) Law and offered to expert investors, broadly institutions, experienced professionals and investors making a minimum investment set in the Expert Fund Guide (commonly cited as US$100,000 or equivalent; confirm the current figure with counsel). Expert Funds carry more regulation than JPFs but can be offered more widely and suit open-ended hedge and multi-strategy funds as well as closed-ended strategies. Jersey also has Listed Funds and retail fund categories for specialist use cases.
For managers raising in Europe, Jersey funds are typically marketed under national private placement regimes rather than the EU AIFMD passport. Where an EU passport is essential, Luxembourg is often the comparison point.

Ask a specialistFrequently asked questions
How many investors can a Jersey Private Fund have?
Since the JFSC enhancements effective in August 2025, a new Jersey Private Fund may have an unlimited number of investors, provided offers are made to a restricted group and every investor qualifies as a professional investor. Before that change, JPFs were limited to 50 offers or investors. Existing JPFs should confirm with their DSP how the new rules apply.
How quickly can a Jersey Private Fund be authorized?
The JFSC targets authorization within 24 hours of receiving a complete application submitted by a Jersey-regulated designated service provider that meets all eligibility criteria. The wider launch, including documents, bank accounts and investor onboarding, usually takes several weeks, so authorization is rarely the critical path.
What is a designated service provider for a JPF?
A designated service provider is a Jersey business registered with the JFSC to act for JPFs. It submits the authorization application, carries out AML and investor eligibility checks, and confirms the fund’s ongoing compliance to the JFSC. Every JPF must appoint one. Fundtec is not a DSP and works alongside the DSP as the operational team.
Who counts as a professional investor for a JPF?
Professional investors are defined in the JPF Guide. They include institutions, regulated firms, high-net-worth individuals and entities meeting prescribed tests, and, since 2025, categories such as UK FCA professional clients and US accredited investors under Regulation D. The DSP verifies eligibility at onboarding.
Should I choose a Jersey Private Fund or a Jersey Expert Fund?
Choose a JPF for private, professional-only fundraising where speed and cost matter, such as a PE fund or co-investment vehicle. Choose an Expert Fund when you need a more conventionally regulated product, for example for an open-ended strategy or investors who require a regulated fund status. Counsel can confirm which fits your investor base.
Can a Jersey fund be marketed into the EU?
Jersey funds are usually marketed in the EU under each country’s national private placement regime, which requires notifications and ongoing AIFMD-style disclosures in each target market. Jersey funds do not use the EU marketing passport. Managers needing broad EU distribution often compare a Luxembourg structure.
Can a Jersey Private Fund be open-ended?
Yes. A Jersey Private Fund can be open- or closed-ended, although most JPFs are closed-ended private equity, real estate, credit or co-investment vehicles. An open-ended JPF needs dealing, valuation and redemption processes documented in its offering terms, and an administrator able to run NAV and dealing on the chosen cadence.
What does Fundtec do alongside a Jersey DSP?
The DSP holds the regulated role: it submits the JPF application, carries out AML and eligibility checks and confirms compliance to the JFSC. Fundtec provides the operational work behind the fund, including capital account maintenance, capital call and distribution processing, waterfall and fee calculations, investor reporting and audit support.
